about
“The artist actively works to experience life slowly, and then to re-experience the same thing anew. To read slowly, and to read and read again.” - Rick Rubin
I am a big fan of William Basinski’s albums The Disintegration Loops I-IV. While this is obviously not the same, and not nearly as cool of a story, I wanted to make something inspired by them. Something long and slow that changes over time in small ways.
I read the above quote from Rick Rubin’s fantastic book The Creative Act: A Way of Being shortly after reading that the current most downloaded app in America has most videos averaging between 21 and 34 seconds and advertisers on the platform consider 6 seconds of attention a win.
That is not how I want to live my life.
I am aware that a 36 minute long song will not be for everyone. But I think there is still space in this world for things that are a bit bigger than six seconds and moving on. I hope so. And I hope it is something beautiful.
